Blog Post #11: Bridge to Present (ND community)

  1. What did you find interesting about the history of the Sisters of Notre Dame?
There are many different things that I find interesting about the Sisters of Notre Dame. The most interesting thing I learned about them is that they moved from France to the United States and many different countries. They came here during the gold rush because of the increase of population. The children had to be educated while their families were trying to support themselves. I also found out that the sisters had free schools for the poor because they wanted the poor to be educated. This was interesting because they used the money they made from the school for the wealthy to take care of the costs for the school of the poor. These were the most interesting facts that I learned.

  1. What is something that you heard from the Alumnae Panel that stuck with you and why?
I loved learning about the many different stories that they Alumnae had to tell us. The one story that stuck out to me about their memories here was the fact that Notre Dame had ice cream and soda in the soda fountain. I wonder why that was taken out. Another story that stuck out to me was the one where they used to have to walk in a single file line to their next class. I feel like I wouldn't have liked it here when it was that strict. I think it is very interesting that the school has undergone many interesting changes. Including the addition and cancellation of some school wide opportunities. Notre Dame has an abundance of character and the changes add on to that.

  1. What does it mean to you to be a part of the Notre Dame Community?
Being part of the Notre Dame community means many things to me. I am a legacy here because my mom, grandma, aunts, and cousins all went to Notre. They made so many memories and this school has prepared my family for the future. Being here sets the tone for the future and for effective learning. Being involved in the community gives you many different points of view. Being a tiger means that I am drawn closer to my mother and the rest of my family. I am able to compare experiences with them too. This picture is of my class at a rally.

  1. When you leave Notre Dame High School, what do you think are some values that will stay with you?
I will keep many values with me when I leave Notre Dame is the outlook on life that you get here. Being a sister at Notre Dame helps you understand how to build solid friendships and stay on top of work. I love being with my friends because they are so reliable. Friendships you make here can last you a life time. My grandma is still really good friends with the girls she met here. I love listening to the stories they tell of their time here. I will also take away my great time management skills. At Notre Dame, we get a good amount of homework and I am constantly juggling sports, leadership, and schoolwork. This is a great skill that i will carry into my college life and so forth.
