Blogpost #12: Church in the Present
1. What were some of the main points in Thomas Groome's book, "What makes us Catholic?" Why?
The main points in the reading that my group did was to love and accept everyone. The only way that we are all going to survive is if we learn to love one another. We should all cherish each other and their ideas. Appreciate the diversity we have because it all makes us different. If we were all compassionate and live in kindness, we would accomplish World peace. The different religions all have things in common that tie us to the past. If treated each other equally, everyone would be satisfied.
2. What were some new things that you learned about Pope Francis from the video clips?
I learned about many new things through the Pope Francis from the video clips. One of the main things I learned about was the way people viewed him while he was in Argentina. Everyone he met loved him and was impacted by his teachings. He left an impact on those who listened and wanted to feel the connection. When elected as Pope, you could see how much he imprinted on those he met. Argentina was so proud of their new Pope. There was no doubt that he was qualified. He loved everyone around him and stayed humble while doing it.
3. What are different changes that Pope Francis is making to the way popes usually do things?
Pope Francis is making changes to the way popes usually do things by understanding that the Church needs change. He is also a lot more accepting which means he supports gay rights and equality for all. The Church usually agrees that gay marriage is against Jesus' teachings. This is clearly not the case when it comes to Pope Francis' beliefs. Equality and love for all is his main message. He is so understanding and wants the best for all of his people. Pope's in the past strictly followed the ideas of the Church while Pope Francis knows that the way to keep the Church running on track is by constantly making tiny changes to increase the interest of the Catholic Church. This is a picture of Saint Francis that I chose to visualize the way he looks and how simple he lives.

4. What hopes do you have for the present day Catholic Church?
The hopes I have for the present day Catholic Church is to keep an order for it's people. I would also like to see an increase in female roles in the church. We are living by a very conservative and old fashion manner. I would like to see women taking some new positions in church. This could include, priest, cardinal , and maybe even Pope. The present day Church is changing but I feel like the first major change they should make is to add more female roles. I also hope that the Church keeps it's people in order and on the same page.
