Blog Post #6: The Beatitudes

1. What were new things that you learned about the Beatitudes?
In this unit, I learned many things about the Beatitudes. I learned that they can be interpreted in many different ways. Each Beatitude doesn't just have one meaning. It was written to teach the audience of that time. Now, we live in a different era, so that meaning doesn't really fit us. We can relate them to our problems and lessons nowadays. The Beatitudes still have importance to them and can teach us ways to live and how to view life. This picture has the Beatitudes listed.

2. Which beatitude resonates with you the most and why?
The Beatitude that resonates with me the most is Beatitude number seven. That Beatitude states, " Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God". To me, this means that those who work for a common good and try to make peace, shall go to Heaven and live there for the rest of the afterlife. This gives me a warm feeling because those who don't give in to the evil and stand up for others get the most in the end. They leave an impact on those who are living and get to enjoy themselves in Heaven. We should live to be peacemakers and then enjoy life.

3. What were some things you realized during the class discussion (“gallery walk”)?
The gallery walk showed me the differences in my classmates thinking. Like I stated in number one, we all interpreted the Beatitudes in many ways. We had to come up with a symbol for them and my class was very creative. Some students used emojis and other drew pictures. We all have different takes on the meaning behind them. Many stated the meaning as how the audience would have learned from it in the past. Others talked about the present day meaning.

4. How can you display the beatitudes more in your life?
I can display the Beatitudes more in my life in many ways. One way I can display this in my life is by understanding those around me. I am not a judgmental person but I can work on accepting that everyone is different and don't all have the same views. I can respect those who may be struggling and those who are going through a hard time. I can comfort those who mourn and forgive those in need of forgiveness. The little changes we make in life can make a big impact.
